Reverse engineer

Hi. I need a small peristaltic pump and found one on Amazon that’s almost perfect. Rather than reinvent the wheel, Id like to break this one open and see if it can be modified to my parameters. It might be easier to just buy these and modify them rather than manufacturing my own from scratch. It is a plant watering timer pump whose cycles are in days and weeks. I need the cycles to be seconds and minutes. The hardware is perfect, the logic is not. Design a new chip? Change a few resistors? How complicated might this be?
