Speaker Biographies 

Mike Vasquez, Ph.D, Founder, 3Degrees

Dr. Mike Vasquez is a 3D Printing expert specializing in pushing the boundaries of advanced 3D printing technology. He is the Founder and CEO of 3Degrees, a Chicago-based consulting company focused on helping organizations maximize their investment in the technology. Over the past decade he has worked side-by-side with some of the top machine manufacturers, material producers and end users in the industry, consulting with them to identify novel applications, test new materials, and develop frameworks to maximize R&D efficiency and boost ROI. In the past 18 months, Mike has worked with a dozen companies to help them set up successful and safe facilities. He has also created a software tool called TRACE. It aims to assist companies formalizing their use of 3D Printing to ensure they can meet quality and technical standards outlined by their supply chain and industry requirements. He completed his PhD in Additive Manufacturing at Loughborough University and received both his Bachelors and Masters from MIT in Materials Science and Engineering.


Melissa Albrecht, Alliance and Innovation Manager, UL Ventures (formerly Global Program Manager, Additive Manufacturing, UL)

Melissa is a leader in business transformation and emerging technologies. She has been with UL for over seven years focusing on the safe adoption of new technologies. She is currently the Sandbox Leader under UL Ventures facilitating collaborations between UL businesses and the startup ecosystems. During her time at UL she led the strategy and incubation of new capabilities and business models in Additive Manufacturing (AM). This included the launch of a workforce development program, the industry’s first standard and certification in AM facility safety management, and cross-functional research and new service development in materials, equipment compliance, and emissions.  She also led the global deployment of an enterprise sales, operations and financial system spanning 240+ sites across 30+ countries, integrated 22 acquired businesses onto the platform, and revamped the surveillance processes, a key driver to company profitability. Her work in business transformation was part of the 2014 APQC best practice award. Prior to UL, Melissa worked as an IT management  consultant in life sciences and consumer goods, and spent time as an engineer in the automotive industry. Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and is currently pursuing her Masters in Engineering Management from Northwestern University.

Melissa is a mother of two and a 7 year old boxer. She loves skiing, cooking, traveling, and a good competition. A Chicago transplant from Detroit, she enjoys hanging with friends and cheering on her Midwest sports teams.


Luis Criales, Principal Engineer, Medication Delivery, Baxter Healthcare Corporation 

Dr. Luis Criales is the technical lead for Baxter’s Rapid Prototyping Shop, located in the company’s Technology Campus in Round Lake, IL. In his role as 3D printing/additive manufacturing subject matter expert, he is responsible for globally promoting and expanding the use of novel 3D printing technologies and materials to support Baxter’s R&D and Manufacturing activities. Dr. Criales earned his doctorate degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Rutgers University, where his NIST-funded research centered around physics-based simulation and optimization of Selective Laser Melting of Inconel 625. He also holds bachelor’s and master’s Mechanical Engineering degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Marquette University, respectively. Dr. Criales, his wife Jessica, and son Frankie welcomed baby Olivia to the family on October 21st, 2019.

Federico Sciammarella, Ph.D., Director, Maker Space & ARMM LAB, Northern Illinois University

Dr. Sciammarella is an Associate Professor and the director of the Maker Space and ARMM lab at Northern Illinois University’s College of Engineering & Engineering Technology where his research is focused on laser enabled manufacturing. In 2018 & 2019 he was awarded US patents for Laser Assisted Machining of Ceramics. In 2013 he was the PI of a $2.4 M NIST Measurement Science in Additive Manufacturing award entitled “Development and Validation of Physics-Based Additive Manufacturing Models For Process Control and Quality Assurance” that was in collaboration with QCML, Northwestern University, IMEC, FMA, and ASM. In 2011 he served as the competency area manager for the Laser Materials Processing Group that is part of the National Laser Centre at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa. Because of his research and education work with additive manufacturing, Sciammarella was chosen to be technical chair for the RAPDASA international conference held in South Africa in 2012 which focused on Additive Manufacturing. Later he led a core group of AM professionals in putting together a technology implementation roadmap for Additive Manufacturing in South Africa. He now serves on the America Makes Roadmap Advisory Group for Additive Manufacturing (AM) and 3D Printing (3DP). This group will provide vision and direction to America Makes stakeholders and partners in order to accelerate AM and 3DP technologies and amplify our nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness


Al McGovern, Director, Mechanical Engineering, Shure Incorporated

Al McGovern has engineered products and built strong mechanical engineering teams in 6 different industries at 7 different companies in 6 states over the past 40 years. During that time, he’s used many subtractive and, since 1991, additive prototyping methods in both Research and in Development efforts. In additive, he’s used equipment from 3D Systems, Stratasys, EOS (metal), DTM, Z-Corp, Carbon, Markforged, Desktop Metal, Formlabs and HP. He is an advocate for early and frequent use of 3DP in product development from ideation to field trials, and is still seeking his first production 3DP use in high quality consumer audio products. He is the Director of Mechanical Engineering at Shure Incorporated and, more importantly, is happily married to Mary Jo since 1982. They have 3 married children and a 19 month old grandson, and have called Naperville home since 1997.

Bartt Stoltman, Manufacturing Vertical Marketing Leader, Stratasys

Bartt Stoltman currently serves as Director of Vertical Marketing, Manufacturing Systems at Stratasys. He has nearly two decades of experience in the Manufacturing sector in a variety of roles: operations, marketing, strategy, and product management.  Prior to joining Stratasys, he spent 12 years at Emerson Automation Solutions. Bartt graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.

Jon Walker, Business Development Manager, EOS North America

Jon Walker is an Automotive Specialist and Business Development Manager at EOS North America. He supports major automotive OEMs and suppliers as they integrate additive manufacturing into their supply chain. Throughout his career, Jon has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies specializing in manufacturing to help them navigate their journey toward 3D printing adoption.

Prior to working at EOS, Jon managed sales activity in the Midwest at GF Machining Solutions, where he focused on increasing quality and reduce processing time for customer parts focusing on the mold and die industry. He began his career working for Mazak Corporation as a direct salesman before elevating to a management position where customers depended on his knowledge in manufacturing automation and serial production.

Jon graduated from Elmira College in New York with a bachelor’s degree in business, management and marketing.
