mHUB provided SOLIDWORKS license policy

Ten SOLIDWORKS licenses are available for mHUB members to share.

Users should close the application when not actively using the software. If all licenses are in use, you will get a message to that effect, and you will not be able to run the application.

Access to our software licenses is only for the individual member of mHUB. Use of the licenses by anyone other than the mHUB member is prohibited and will result in the cancelation of the membership. Do not share network access or software licenses. Do not access the license on several computers simultaneously.

Here are instructions for gaining access to the mHUB SOLIDWORKS license.

It is easiest to first install SOLIDWORKS at mHUB on our local network, verify SOLIDWORKS runs, then establish a VPN from a remote location. If that is not practical, you can establish a VPN connection first and then access the installers.

VPN settings are your responsibility to troubleshoot. We have limited ability to troubleshoot your computer, and errors in your client configuration are always the problem.

Option 1: mHUB SOLIDWORKS installation instructions via at-mHUB network

1.        Ensure you have network access on the computer you wish to install SoldWorks. This can be via a wifi connection, but the process will be faster using an ethernet cable and any port at mHUB.

No credentials are needed for an ethernet cable connection. If using wifi, you can use the guest or IIOT wifi, but it is preferred to use individual credentials for wifi access.

If you do not have individual credentials or have forgotten your password, use the form on the membership portal to request assistance: https://mhubchicago.com/form/4051. This form is found under Resources on the left-hand sidebar.

2.           Connect to the mHUB network. (Confirm that you are connected by pinging the TASKalph 5052ci color printer at 10.11.0.92)

3.        Once connected, navigate to the following address in Windows Explorer. Do not use a web browser.

\\mhubmaster.ad.mhubchicago.com\DeploymentShare

 4.        Chose the version of Solidworks you would like to install.

It will be a lengthy process. Consider using a wired connection.

 5.     The installation proceeds automatically. It may take over an hour. The installation tool often reports failure, when it has actually succeeded. If you get an error message, restart your computer and attempt to run Solidworks. If you run into issues, screenshot the error message. mHUB staff will not assist you with installation problems, but you may find a solution using the member Slack channel. You will need to accurately describe the error.

The most common error occurs when you are installing a new version without completely uninstalling previous versions. This is a particular problem with the electrical design database. There are several possible solutions documented on the web.

Option 2: mHUB SOLIDWORKS installation instructions via VPN.

You cannot do the following procedure on the mHUB network.

1. Ensure you have individual network credentials. You cannot use the guest credentials to establish a VPN connection.

mHUB network credential username is typically <first initial>+<lastname>. It is not your email address, which is your username for our website.

If you do not have personal credentials or have forgotten your password, use the form on the membership portal to request assistance: https://mhubchicago.com/form/4051. This form is found under Resources on the left-hand sidebar.

2.          Use a browser to access the following site:  https://getconnected.mhubchicago.com/#

To log in, use use your individual mHUB network credentials.
Take note of the information you will need to enter, including the network address, security type and preshare key.
Follow the link to Meraki site for instructions to set up VPN for your operating system.

3.           Connect to the mHUB network using VPN. Confirm that you are connected by pinging the TASKalph 5052ci color printer at 10.11.0.92

4.        Once connected, navigate to the following address in Windows Explorer. Do not use a web browser.

 5.        Chose the version of Solidworks you would like to install.

It may be a lengthy process. Consider using a wired connection, or running the installation while at mHUB. If you choose this option, connect to the member network or use an ethernet port, VPN access is not used.
